Elite Veteran Posts: 908 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Fort Walton Beach | Ok...I tried to find my old post about my cart design....no luck so started this thread instead. Below are some pictures of my newly redesigned cart. Basically all I did was buy some of those fancy Roleez wheels off Ebay and swapped my old ones off. Oh...and painted it. I cant wait to hit some sand and give it a test drive.....seems to work great on hard land....but that means nothing I know.... Elite Veteran Posts: 908 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Fort Walton Beach | I had this emailed to me and figured others may have the same questions....so see below.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Larry, Actually it’s not that hard at all. What I do is set the cart down next to my beached kayak (fully loaded) and aim the cart at the front of the yak. (approximately adjacent to the scupper holes maybe a little forward) Then I pick up the back end of the yak and gently set it down onto the cart..... The trick is, to set the yak lightly onto the cart and slide forward until you fell the posts go into the scuppers. Once you “feel / see” the posts, your all set. I only say “lightly” so as not to have the entire weight of the yak on the posts. They do bend out of the way though so it’s really not that big of a deal. It is easier so slide the yak forward on the cart though if you are partially carrying the weight of it in your hands. Cart looks great, good combination of ideas. How do you launch and recover a fully loaded yak with this cart? Seems to me that it would be difficult to get the posts centered. Larry B

Have you had much trouble with the cart sliding away from you when trying to load it? I had to put some soft rubber on mine (where the support stand touches the ground) to keep it from sliding away from me.

Elite Veteran Posts: 908 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Fort Walton Beach | It used to slide a little with the hard wheels I had but theses softer ones dont seem to move too much.... If it becomes an issue, then I may just rubberize the kick stand somehow. Shouldnt be too hard to solve that.

Veteran Posts: 243 ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Freeport, FL | That looks like a functional good cart Rick. Those wheels should ride much higher in the sand than mine. I don't know if you remember dragging mine up from the beach awhile back when we switched kayaks but yours dragged about as easy on the sand as mine did on my cart and most of it was those narrow wheels digging into the sand instead of riding on top of the sand. Are those Rolleze wheels standard hubs and are they held on with normal clip pins or do they require a special threaded mount?? Most of the wheels are held on with clevis pins or some such variation and I was wondering if they would interchange with my wheels on my existing axles? I think my axles are 1/2" diameter?!? Good job on the cart!

Elite Veteran Posts: 908 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Fort Walton Beach | I am using a 7/8" aluminum tube (1/16" thick) for my axle. It just runs thru the cart from one end to the other. It fits sort of loose inside of the wheel hubs which I think are one inch diameter. I drilled a hole thru the end of the tubing on each end and ran a pin thru (cant remember the name...like a cotter pin but its springy, not bendable). The wheels will actually spin without turning the bearings if you lift them off the ground, but once the weight of the yak is on them, they spin just like any other wheel bearing would normally do. This is just due to the loose fit I have. I couldnt find the exact size alum tubing I wanted so I had to compromise a bit.

Expert Posts: 1343 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Milton... or somewhere fishing on my Yak!! | Bill... there are people around here... who collect those wide plastic tires from the kid's cars they drive. I think some were even taken... while the kids were driving them... thus discovering they indeed... were missing two tires. Hahahaha Seriously... start watching the curbs... one whole car may end up sitting there broke.. but their tires would still be good!!
