I posted this in another thread but thought it might be wise to just start a new thread.

Does anyone just use a full size regular 12V marine battery? I know they are heavy but it seems you could run all you gear from one source.

Thanks
Art

Art - i think the weight is a big detractor. Most of us only run an FF - a few have live baitwells, but even that can be run on a smaller battery. With a bait tube trailing behind the yak, you really don't even need a livewell. I am not sure the power demand can justify lugging a 12V battery...

Art - I use a 7.5 amp hour battery to power my fish finder and even after 15 -20 hours of use (at least a quarter of which were after dark with the backlight on) it usually still has 85-90% of it's charge. Probably weighs 3 lbs and fits perfectly inside the hull between the footwells of my Redfish 12. Should be enough to power everything you need, except a trolling motor. - Dick

FldTrlr, interesting. Where can you get this type of battery?

I have seen a number of posts that refer to batteries from computer UPS units. There are probably several sources on the web, but you can try

Art - Check out this link: http://www.kayakfishinggear.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Categ... . I can highly recommend Hook1 for their fast, courteous service, however, you should be able to find one locally and save on shipping. - Dick

I bought my small 12v at the battery source on 9 mile rd for $19.99. I am searching for a larger one myself... my new FF NEEDS 12v to operate properly... AND... I'd like to eventually connect my handheld gps to it also.

There is a battery warehouse in Ft Walton Beach. Mike Clubs might know the number. He and I have both bought several batteries there I just lost their number.

Academy, 12V deer feeder battery. It will pull a FF and a livewell.

Its smaller than those at Hook1, and no shipping.

I purchased a 7 amp hour 12 volt battery like the ones used in computer battery backup systems. This battery only needs charged about once a month of fishing so you could easily use a smaller battery say like a 3-5 amp hour.

I found a tupperware type container and drilled a hole in the top for the wires to enter then sealed the hole with silicon. For the battery connections they are a perfect fit for connectors that you can buy at any hardware store, the connectors can be slipped on and off as the battery need to be removed or charged.

The battery with charger was about 35 dollars when I purchased mine and the smaller batteries should be cheaper. Battery Warehouse in Ft. Walton Beach is located on Hollywood Ave. I do not have the phone number now that I am out of state.

Check any store that sell home security supplies. I use both the 7 amp hr and 3.5 amp hr batteries in alarm panels I install. I think Radio Shack sells them.
